If you are over 18 your case will commence in the Magistrates’ Court. You will have received a date to attend court either from the Police when you were at the police station; or by post if your case has been started by requisition or summons.

Magistrates’ Court cases:

It is expected that the vast majority of cases will be concluded at the first hearing or after a second where a case is put back for reports – usually within four weeks.  If a not guilty plea is entered, then a period of four to eight weeks is sufficient time to arrange and hold a trial but this will depend upon the likely length of a trial.
